World AIDS Day

The Department of Health and Aged Care needed a new World AIDS Day website live in less than three weeks, to help people find events and get involved in the response to HIV. Morpht delivered a contemporary site with an events map, better search, and met every requirement in time for World AIDS Day.

Live in under three weeks

People can now find World AIDS Day events in their state and trusted information in one place.

  • New website delivered in under three weeks, in time for World AIDS Day
  • An events content type with a map that filters events by state
  • Search with filters by state and format, with events and resources boosted in results
  • Replaced a dated site that had broken links and accessibility issues

About World AIDS Day

Drupal 11 | Information architecture | Web development | Search

The Department shapes and delivers health policies, programs, and services for the Australian population. Its World AIDS Day site needed to share information, resources, and events, and show individuals and organisations how to get involved.

The website needed to launch before November, leaving less than three weeks to implement the new design, content types, information architecture, and search.

The solution

With the Department's World AIDS Day team, we mapped the content model, identifying the key content types, fields, roles, and taxonomy terms. This groundwork kept the build smooth.

Working with the Department's designer, we used imagery and specific components to guide visitors through the topic and the events on offer. Quick feedback rounds kept the project on track.

Search and findability

To ensure reliable access to events and content, we implemented a site search by adding multifaceted terms incl. (State, Format) and adding boosting on key content types such as events and resources.

Platform and infrastructure

The legacy site had a plethora of broken links, accessibility issues and was very dated. Hence the need to bring it up to Drupal 10 with correct coding standards and a refreshed design. As the DOH was keen to adopt the Awesome Starter Kit (ASK) developed by Dept of Health Online Services, we assessed its capabilities and identified the most suitable components based on the DOH needs. We also supplemented the ASK with custom content types to deliver a hybrid solution that uses the Health Design System.

We rebuilt the site on Drupal 10 with current coding standards. The Department wanted to adopt the Awesome Starter Kit (ASK), developed by its Online Services area, so we selected the most suitable components and added custom content types to the Health Design System.
